The Scottish Conveyancing and Executry Services Board is an executive Non-Departmental Public Body. Its role is to regulate the provision of conveyancing and executry services in Scotland by qualified practitioners who are not solicitors. Despite the announcement in June 2001 that the Board is to be abolished and its functions transferred to the Law Society of Scotland, no bill has yet been presented to Parliament that would enable this action. The Board sees its impending abolition as a retrograde step, which will deny to the public an element of choice, and will restore the monopoly of the Law Society of Scotland in this area. The report sets out the Board's achievements in relation to performance measures and targets, and presents the accounts for the period 2001-02.
