This Act provides for the establishment of an Electoral Commission which would have the functions of reporting on elections and referendums, reviewing electoral law, allocating policy development grants to parties and promoting participation and understanding of our democratic systems of government. The functions of the Parliamentary and Local Government Boundary Commissions would transfer to the Commission. Other sections of the Act deal with the registration of political parties and the accounting requirements; donations; financial controls and control of campaign expenditure.
