The New Year honours lists recognise the achievements and service of people across the UK, and are published in The Gazette, the official newspaper of the Crown. In total 1,148 people have received an award, with 70% being honoured for work in their communities.Separate lists are also published for honours awarded in a number of dependencies and overseas territories.
Among those being honoured are:

A CBE for Nick Mason for his services to music.
Novelist margaret Atwood joins the Companions of Honour for her services to literature.
