The Scottish Conveyancing and Executry Services Board is an executive Non-Departmental Public Body. It was established by the Secretary of State for Scotland in 1991, although it did not become fully operational until 1997. Its role is to regulate the provision of conveyancing and executry services in Scotland by qualified practitioners who are not solicitors. In June 2001, the Scottish Executive announced that the Board is to be abolished and its functions transferred to the Law Society of Scotland. In this annual report, the Board states its regret at this decision, as it feels it has not been given sufficient time or support to fulfil its functions, and that this will deny opportunities for practitioners and reduce public choice. The report sets out the Board's achievements in relation to performance measures and targets, and presents the accounts for the period 2000/01.
