This Act implements some of the recommendations contained in Sir Robin Auld's review of the criminal courts system in England and Wales (ISBN 011702547X) published in October 2001 and which were accepted in the Government's White Paper "Justice for All" (Cm. 5563, ISBN 0101556322). It also makes provision for a number of changes regarding judicial matters and to civil and family court procedure. The Act contains nine parts and includes measures to bring magistrates' courts into a unified court system with the county, Crown and High Courts; as well as others relating to the collection of fines, court security, judicial titles and periodic payment of damages.
