In March 2023 HSE organised Safe Net Zero 2023 - Hydrogen, a two day conference held at the QEII Centre in London, and attended by over 100 delegates from across industry and government.

UK Government's Energy Security Strategy reaffirms the UK's commitment to hydrogen: aiming to generate up to 10GW of low carbon hydrogen production capacity by 2030, double the previous ambition. This means the technology landscape for hydrogen continues to develop at pace and Government, industry and innovators all need to continue to pull in the same direction if they are to successfully unlock hydrogen's potential as a low carbon energy carrier.

Safety remains a critical success factor for the potential of hydrogen and was the underpinning theme for the event, which covered a range of topics including:

• Industrial clusters, hydrogen production and use

• Applications in aviation

• International hydrogen safety topics

• Applications in maritime

• Liquid fuels and systems.
