This report describes a study to demonstrate how the application of optical time-domain reflectometry (OTDR) techniques could improve the safety of pipelines and risers by providing information on their fitness for purpose. In order to do this, the feasibility of developing a distributed online fibre-optic integrity monitoring system for flexible pipelines and risers was investigated.
