This Act contains provisions for the transfer of certain land (which currently forms part of Princes Street Gardens in Edinburgh) from Edinburgh Council to the Gallery trustees, in order to carry out improvements to the National Gallery of Scotland and the adjacent Royal Scottish Academy buildings. These improvements, including building construction, form part of a project known as the Playfair project, and the trustees have agreed to dispose of other nearby land to the Council in exchange.
