This Act contains provisions for changes to the law regarding homelessness in Scotland in line with the final report of the Homelessness Task Force (Helping homeless people, ISBN 0755903331), as part of the Scottish Executive's efforts to promote social justice. The provisions primarily affect the duties of local authorities to provide accommodation for homeless people, but there are also implications for non-local authority landlords regarding the repossession of property and for registered social landlords in assisting local authorities in complying with their new duties. Provisions include widening the legal definition of 'priority need for accommodation'; and giving local authorities a discretion (rather than a duty) to investigate whether an applicant is 'intentionally homeless'.
