The main United Kingdom, or Prime Minister's list, details the people from all walks of life awarded honours for the New Year 2017. Separate lists are also published for honours awarded in a number of dependencies and overseas territories. In total 1,197 people have received an award.

Among those being honoured are:

  • A Companion of Honour for Dame Evelyn Glennie in recognition of her services to music;

  • A Companion of Honour for Baroness Shirley Williams for services to political and public life;

  • A Knighthood for Mark Rylance - actor and former artistic director of Shakespeare's Globe theatre for services to theatre

  • A Damehood for Anna Wintour - editor-in-chief of Vogue and artistic director, Conde Nastservices, for services to fashion and journalism;

  • A Knighthood for Ray Davies - musician and frontman of The Kinks, whose hits include Waterloo Sunset, Lola, and Sunny Afternoon;

  • A Knighthood for Andy Murray for services to tennis and charity

  • A CBE for Oliver Morley, chief executive of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency, recognised for the agency's work in digital services;

  • A CBE for Angela Rippon for services to dementia care;

  • An OBE for Sheila Battersby, senior policy adviser, Cabinet Office;

  • An OBE for actor, Naomie Harris for services to drama; and

  • An OBE for Chris Coleman, Manager of Wales national football team, for services to football.

Many campaigners have also been recognised, including the former Bishop of Liverpool, the Right Reverend James Jones, who is knighted in recognition of his work in aiding the Hillsborough families.

Adventurer David Hempleman-Adams is made a Knight Commander of the Victorian Order, as a personal gift from the Queen, in recognition of his services to the Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme.

Prime Minister Theresa May has drafted new priorities for future Honours lists to focus on those who work with children and young people, who encourage social mobility or fight discrimination, or who work in enterprise and business.
